The thought of employing an architectural designer can often be seen as a daunting process… Here at Andrew Shiels Architectural Design I intend to get right to the heart of designing your home or workspace by working side by side with my clients. Collaboration, understanding and transparency between all parties in the build process involved is critical for a successful outcome.

Where architectural design meets creative vision
ABOUT
I design residential, workspace and commercial projects based in East Anglia, UK. I focus on planning, retrofits and new builds with an emphasis on sustainable residential comfort and peaceful workspaces. I offer valuable services to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. They can range from simple extensions/alterations to more complex developments.
APPROACH
PARTNERSHIP
Re-modelling your living or work space involves a partnership linking designer to client and client to designer in a continuous circle. I listen to my clients throughout the whole project. This is particularly important when and if compromises are needed.
COMMUNICATION
A successful project starts with an in-depth consultation to completely understand your needs and expectations. This should be held at the site of the proposed work. A meeting such as this will give both parties an opportunity to build a rapport, making a solid foundation to last throughout the project ahead.
BACKGROUND
Architecture is my second career, starting around 20 years ago when I opened a small studio working in residential, workspace and commercial environments. New work has mostly been recommendation.

DESIGN-LED PHILOSOPHY
SPACE AND FABRIC
Many of us focus on the extra space we need, both at home and business. The fabric that encloses those spaces can often be second on the agenda. This can be a oversight, because the environment we wish to create is most likely to be an equal combination of the two. The fabric delivers many benefits such as comfort, peaceful work spaces, energy saving, low maintenance costs and materials that stand the test of time.
SUSTAINABILITY
SUSTAINABLE living and working enviroments are NO LONGER THE FUTURE. Sustainable considerations must POWER THE WORLD WE DESIGN TODAY. Planning for future comfort and budgets is essential today and should be seen as an investment, just as purchasing a house and developing a business in the right place is critical in protecting your resources now and in the future. My intentions are always to use as much of the existing fabric as possible, both the materials and structure, so as to extend the life of materials for both budgets and sustainability.
